Photographs mounted on aluminium - 120 X 168 cm
Considering a synthesised image of contemporary art, the work invites the viewer to observe it as a microcosm of our times. Large black and white photographs show contemporary international art magazines and publications piled onto plinths. Art Forum, Parkett, Kunstforum, Art in America, Frieze - but also catalogues of exhibitions like Documenta and the Venice Biennale. Each represents a body of criticism that has a powerful influence on shaping the way that art is perceived and received. Each pile is captured at a moment of precarious imbalance. The addition of a single extra issue would provoke the collapse of the pile. The positioning transforms the magazines into meaningful sculptural objects.
